BUILDING ELEVATION SURVEYS
Building Elevation Surveys create accurate orthographic drawings of external or internal building faces. AMS Surveys can use 3D laser scanning, total station measurement, photography and drone capture where appropriate to record façade geometry, openings, rooflines and architectural features. Elevations are commonly required for planning, refurbishment, façade alteration, heritage work and design coordination.
LASER SCAN SURVEYS WHAT YOU GET
Our Measured Building Surveys can include:
-
Floor plans and layout drawings
-
External and internal elevations
-
Cross sections
-
Roof plans
-
Reflected ceiling plans
-
CAD drawings (DWG format)
-
Point cloud data
-
3D BIM models, including Revit outputs where required
All outputs are tailored to your project requirements, whether for planning, design, refurbishment or commercial use.
TYPICAL PROJECTS AND APPLICATIONS
Building Elevation Surveys are commonly commissioned for projects such as:
Planning applications requiring existing external elevations
Listed Building Consent and conservation projects
Façade refurbishment, window replacement and envelope upgrades
Extensions and redevelopment where new work must connect accurately to the existing building
Commercial and industrial buildings with complex façades
Historic buildings where decorative features and irregular geometry need careful recording
For a broader existing-building package, see Measured Building Surveys. Related AMS Surveys services can be coordinated where the project also requires design, condition or heritage input.

COMMON OUTPUTS PROVIDED
Depending on the agreed scope, AMS Surveys can provide:
CAD external elevations
Internal elevations where required by the brief
PDF drawing sets at the agreed scale
Window, door, parapet, eaves and roofline geometry
Architectural details and materials annotations where specifically requested
Point cloud or rectified visual information where included in the survey scope

Q: Do you work with heritage and listed buildings?
A: Yes, we regularly survey historic and heritage assets, producing elevations and sections suitable for conservation-led projects.
Q: What formats do you provide?
A: Survey drawings are typically issued as PDF and CAD-ready files, tailored to the design team’s requirements.
Q: Is this suitable for commercial buildings?
A: Yes, our measured surveys are commonly commissioned for offices, retail units, industrial buildings and mixed-use developments.

ABOUT BUILDING ELEVATION SURVEYS
An elevation survey records a building face as a measured drawing rather than a perspective photograph. Laser scanning is particularly useful where façades include repeated openings, complex stonework, irregular geometry or multiple levels. Where parts of the elevation cannot be seen from ground level, the survey methodology can be supplemented by safe high-level capture such as drone imagery. AMS Surveys can also coordinate elevation work with heritage, planning and roof survey services when a project requires more than a simple façade drawing.
