SCAN TO CAD SURVEYS
Scan to CAD Surveys turn accurate laser-scanned building data into clear 2D drawings for design, planning and construction workflows. AMS Surveys captures the existing building, processes the point cloud and produces CAD floor plans, elevations, sections or roof plans in DWG and PDF formats to the agreed level of detail. The service is well suited to project teams that need reliable drawings but do not require the cost or complexity of a full BIM model.
LASER SCAN SURVEYS WHAT YOU GET
Our Measured Building Surveys can include:
-
Floor plans and layout drawings
-
External and internal elevations
-
Cross sections
-
Roof plans
-
Reflected ceiling plans
-
CAD drawings (DWG format)
-
Point cloud data
-
3D BIM models, including Revit outputs where required
All outputs are tailored to your project requirements, whether for planning, design, refurbishment or commercial use.
TYPICAL PROJECTS AND APPLICATIONS
Scan to CAD Surveys are commonly commissioned for projects such as:
Architectural planning and design packages
Commercial refurbishment and fit-out projects
Extensions, conversions and change-of-use schemes
Listed building and conservation projects requiring accurate existing elevations
Tender information and contractor coordination
Projects where old drawings need to be replaced with a current as-found record
For a broader existing-building package, see Measured Building Surveys. Related AMS Surveys services can be coordinated where the project also requires design, condition or heritage input.

COMMON OUTPUTS PROVIDED
Depending on the agreed scope, AMS Surveys can provide:
DWG floor plans
External and internal elevations where specified
Cross sections through key parts of the building
Roof plans and ceiling plans where required
PDF drawing sets for review and issue
Point cloud data retained or supplied as part of the agreed deliverables

A: Yes, we regularly survey historic and heritage assets, producing elevations and sections suitable for conservation-led projects.
Q: What formats do you provide?
A: Survey drawings are typically issued as PDF and CAD-ready files, tailored to the design team’s requirements.
Q: Is this suitable for commercial buildings?
A: Yes, our measured surveys are commonly commissioned for offices, retail units, industrial buildings and mixed-use developments.

ABOUT SCAN TO CAD SURVEYS
Scan to CAD combines the speed and coverage of 3D laser scanning with the accessibility of conventional 2D drawing outputs. Once the scans are registered and quality checked, technicians trace and interpret the surveyed geometry to create usable drawings at the required scale and detail. The result is a familiar drawing package based on a much denser measured record than a small number of hand dimensions. It is often the most efficient option where the design team works primarily in AutoCAD or where planning submissions require existing plans and elevations.
