ROOF PLAN SURVEYS
Roof Plan Surveys provide accurate plan information for existing pitched, flat and complex roof forms. AMS Surveys can combine measured building capture with 3D laser scanning, total station measurement and drone imagery where appropriate to record ridges, valleys, parapets, rooflights, plant and other agreed features. These drawings support roof replacement, extensions, refurbishment, planning and heritage projects.
LASER SCAN SURVEYS WHAT YOU GET
Our Measured Building Surveys can include:
-
Floor plans and layout drawings
-
External and internal elevations
-
Cross sections
-
Roof plans
-
Reflected ceiling plans
-
CAD drawings (DWG format)
-
Point cloud data
-
3D BIM models, including Revit outputs where required
All outputs are tailored to your project requirements, whether for planning, design, refurbishment or commercial use.
TYPICAL PROJECTS AND APPLICATIONS
Roof Plan Surveys are commonly commissioned for projects such as:
Roof replacement and major repair design
Extensions where new roof geometry must connect with the existing building
Commercial and industrial roof refurbishment
Heritage projects involving complex slate, lead or historic roof forms
Planning and listed building submissions requiring existing roof plans
Projects where high-level access is difficult and remote capture can reduce unnecessary access risk
For a broader existing-building package, see Measured Building Surveys. Related AMS Surveys services can be coordinated where the project also requires design, condition or heritage input.

COMMON OUTPUTS PROVIDED
Depending on the agreed scope, AMS Surveys can provide:
CAD roof plans in DWG format
PDF roof plans at an agreed scale
Ridges, hips, valleys, parapets, rooflights and principal drainage features where visible and requested
Relevant roof levels where included in scope
Point cloud data covering accessible or visible roof geometry
High-resolution drone imagery where separately commissioned and suitable

MEASURED BUILDING SURVEY FAQs
Q: What is a measured building survey?
A: A measured building survey provides accurate drawings of an existing property, supporting planning, refurbishment, retrofit and redevelopment work.
Q: Do you work with heritage and listed buildings?
A: Yes, we regularly survey historic and heritage assets, producing elevations and sections suitable for conservation-led projects.
Q: What formats do you provide?
A: Survey drawings are typically issued as PDF and CAD-ready files, tailored to the design team’s requirements.
Q: Is this suitable for commercial buildings?
A: Yes, our measured surveys are commonly commissioned for offices, retail units, industrial buildings and mixed-use developments.

ABOUT ROOF PLAN SURVEYS
Roof geometry is often under-recorded on old drawings, particularly where buildings have been extended repeatedly or contain concealed valleys, changes in level and irregular pitches. A measured roof plan creates a dependable base for designers and roofing contractors. The exact method depends on visibility and access. Ground-based scanning may capture much of the roofline, while drone imagery can supplement inaccessible areas. A roof plan survey records geometry, whereas a condition-focused roof survey investigates defects, deterioration and repair needs, and the two services can be combined where required.
