3D LASER SCANNING SURVEYS
3D Laser Scanning Surveys provide rapid, high-density measurement of buildings, structures and complex spaces. AMS Surveys uses laser scanning as part of measured building survey workflows where accurate existing-condition data is required for design, planning, refurbishment, heritage recording or digital modelling. By capturing millions of measured points from multiple scanner positions, we can create a coordinated digital record that supports point cloud, CAD and BIM deliverables while reducing reliance on repeated manual measurement.

TYPICAL PROJECTS AND APPLICATIONS
3D Laser Scanning Surveys are commonly commissioned for projects such as:
Measured building surveys for complex or irregular properties
Refurbishment and retrofit projects where design teams need dependable existing data
Heritage and listed buildings where non-contact recording helps capture detailed geometry
Industrial buildings, plant spaces, warehouses and large commercial interiors
Façades, rooflines and high-level features where laser data can be coordinated with other capture methods
As-built and verification surveys where actual construction needs to be compared with design information
For a broader existing-building package, see Measured Building Surveys. Related AMS Surveys services can be coordinated where the project also requires design, condition or heritage input.

COMMON OUTPUTS PROVIDED
Depending on the agreed scope, AMS Surveys can provide:
Registered 3D laser scan datasets
Point cloud data for viewing, measurement or downstream modelling
2D CAD plans, elevations and sections
3D Revit or BIM models where required
High-resolution spatial records of complex architectural features
Coordinated survey information tied to project control where specified

MEASURED BUILDING SURVEY FAQs
Q: What is a measured building survey?
A: A measured building survey provides accurate drawings of an existing property, supporting planning, refurbishment, retrofit and redevelopment work.
Q: Do you work with heritage and listed buildings?
A: Yes, we regularly survey historic and heritage assets, producing elevations and sections suitable for conservation-led projects.
Q: What formats do you provide?
A: Survey drawings are typically issued as PDF and CAD-ready files, tailored to the design team’s requirements.
Q: Is this suitable for commercial buildings?
A: Yes, our measured surveys are commonly commissioned for offices, retail units, industrial buildings and mixed-use developments.

ABOUT 3D LASER SCANNING SURVEYS
Terrestrial laser scanners measure the distance and direction to visible surfaces many thousands or millions of times, building a dense three-dimensional record from each scan position. The individual scans are then registered together to create a coordinated dataset. The important part of the service is not simply operating the scanner, it is planning coverage, establishing appropriate control, checking registration and producing deliverables that suit the design team's intended use. AMS Surveys combines digital capture with practical knowledge of buildings so the survey scope reflects the project, not simply the capability of the equipment.
