REVIT MEASURED BUILDING SURVEYS
Revit Measured Building Surveys provide architects, engineers and project teams with a three-dimensional model of an existing building based on surveyed information rather than assumed geometry. AMS Surveys can combine laser scanning and measured survey data with Revit modelling to produce a dependable starting point for design development, coordination, refurbishment and retrofit. The model scope is agreed before survey so the level of detail reflects how the information will actually be used.
LASER SCAN SURVEYS WHAT YOU GET
Our Measured Building Surveys can include:
-
Floor plans and layout drawings
-
External and internal elevations
-
Cross sections
-
Roof plans
-
Reflected ceiling plans
-
CAD drawings (DWG format)
-
Point cloud data
-
3D BIM models, including Revit outputs where required
All outputs are tailored to your project requirements, whether for planning, design, refurbishment or commercial use.
TYPICAL PROJECTS AND APPLICATIONS
Revit Measured Building Surveys are commonly commissioned for projects such as:
Architectural practices beginning refurbishment or extension design in Revit
Commercial fit-outs and change-of-use projects
Heritage projects where walls, roofs and openings are irregular or out of square
Education and estate projects where a reusable digital building model is required
Coordination between architectural, structural and building-services design teams
Projects moving from legacy 2D information into a BIM-based workflow
For a broader existing-building package, see Measured Building Surveys. Related AMS Surveys services can be coordinated where the project also requires design, condition or heritage input.

COMMON OUTPUTS PROVIDED
Depending on the agreed scope, AMS Surveys can provide:
Revit existing-condition building models
Floor plans, reflected plans, elevations and sections generated from the model
Point cloud files retained as the measured reference
Modelled walls, floors, roofs, openings and principal architectural elements to the agreed scope
IFC exports where required for coordination
Survey notes covering tolerances, exclusions and modelling assumptions

MEASURED BUILDING SURVEY FAQs
Q: What is a measured building survey?
A: A measured building survey provides accurate drawings of an existing property, supporting planning, refurbishment, retrofit and redevelopment work.
Q: Do you work with heritage and listed buildings?
A: Yes, we regularly survey historic and heritage assets, producing elevations and sections suitable for conservation-led projects.
Q: What formats do you provide?
A: Survey drawings are typically issued as PDF and CAD-ready files, tailored to the design team’s requirements.
Q: Is this suitable for commercial buildings?
A: Yes, our measured surveys are commonly commissioned for offices, retail units, industrial buildings and mixed-use developments.

ABOUT REVIT MEASURED BUILDING SURVEYS
A Revit survey model should be treated as a measured representation of existing conditions, not as a design model containing information that has not been verified. The accuracy of the finished model depends on the site capture, control, point cloud processing and the modelling brief. AMS Surveys separates measured facts from assumptions and agrees what should be modelled before work begins. This is particularly important for historic and altered buildings where nominally straight walls, level floors or standard components may differ materially from the real building.
